What is a cancer care team?

A cancer care team is a group of specialized healthcare professionals who work together to provide comprehensive care before, during, and after cancer treatment. This team typically includes a variety of experts, each bringing a unique set of skills and expertise to address different aspects of cancer care. 

Key members of a cancer care team often include medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and in some cases, interventional radiologists. These doctors lead your treatment, coordinating with other healthcare providers to ensure a cohesive approach.  

Nurses and nurse practitioners also play crucial roles. Our nurse practitioners are specially trained in oncology.  They not only provide medical care, but also offer support, answer questions, and help you navigate the emotional and practical aspects of your diagnosis. 

In addition to doctors and nurses, your care team may include other professionals such as social workers, pharmacists, dietitians, palliative care providers, and specialists who focus on particular types of cancer, treatments, or health issues related to cancer. These team members may work directly with your core cancer care team within the same facility or be referred from other locations to address specific needs. This collaborative approach ensures that you receive well-rounded care tailored to your individual situation.
